I am Thankful

I am thankful:

For the wife who says it’s hot dogs tonight, because she is home with me, and not out with someone else.

For the husband who is on the sofa being a couch potato, because he is home with me and not out at the bars.

For the teenager who is complaining about doing dishes, because it means she is at home, not on the streets.

For the taxes I pay because it means I am employed.

For the mess to clean after a party because it means I have been surrounded by friends. For the clothes that fit a little too snug because it means I have enough to eat.

For my shadow that watches me work because it means I am out in the sunshine. For a lawn that needs mowing, windows that need cleaning, and gutters that need fixing because it means I have a home.

For all the complaining I hear about the government because it means we have freedom of speech. For the parking spot I find at the far end of the parking lot because it means I am capable of walking and I have been blessed with transportation.

For my huge heating bill because it means I am warm.  For the lady behind me in church who sings off key because it means I can hear.  For the pile of laundry and ironing because it means I have clothes to wear.

For weariness and aching muscles at the end of the day because it means I have been Capable of working hard.

For the alarm that goes off in the early morning hours because it means I am alive.

And finally, for too much e-mail because it means I have friends who are thinking of me.

The Night Before Help Arrived

‘Twas the night before
we got cured.

When all through the house,
not even a mouse
could move in the clutter about.

Our stockings weren’t hung
and the lights still weren’t strung,
and then sprung
a heart tremor!

Our company soon would be here;
Oh Dear!

The children were scattering their toys all about,
while the dog started making a funny noise from his snout.

My head started spinning from all the clutter;
but what did it matter?

Off to the kitchen to start dinner;
I wanted this one to be a winner!

When out in the driveway
there arose such a clatter!

I jumped and weaved around piles of matter
to see what was the thunder.

There sat a big pile of stuff from my car,
which had fallen out when Kyle opened the door.

When, what to my wondering eyes should appear,
our company’s already HERE I thought with a tear!

As I looked around at all the clutter,
I heard myself mutter,
we need professional help.

As fast as I could;
Whatchamcallits were shoved here and there.
The closet doors mourned,
as we squeezed more stuff in.

I dashed around the house with a box!
Rocks, socks, blocks and toys!

Gathering, tossing, hiding and shouting,
they’re HERE, they’re HERE,
hide all this stuff!

So up to the house the company came;
While I proclaimed:
Stuff it in here,
Shove it in there,
Squeeze it into this,
Throw it in the abyss!

And then, in a twinkling, I heard the doorbell ring.
As I smoothed my hair and was turning around,
I noticed dog poop all over the ground!

I yelled for my family to get their coats,
surprising our guests at the door
we just took them OUT.

In the morning I couldn’t get dressed
as I looked at our mess.

I called a professional
and made a confession
about our stuff
about our obsession.

I laughed when I saw her,
in spite of my mess,
as I knew soon she would
relieve me of this stress.

A wink of her eye and a nod of her head
soon let me know I had nothing to dread.

She spoke not a word unkind
when she saw what a mess,
but went straight to her work
and I felt blessed.

We sorted through the piles of paper and things
as she taught me how to de-clutter and sing.

Toss, donate and recycle;
Hey, give this one to Michael!

File don’t pile
were some lessons I learned.
Every dollar I paid her, she earned.

At the end of the day
she gave a little smile and a nod.
Out the door she flowed.
And my place
 how it showed.

A professional had been here;
I had nothing to fear.

As I looked around I was truly pleased;
No clutter, no piles, and I was finally at ease.

So if you are stressed
and have a big mess
don’t obsess!!

You CAN have success,
so much less stress
and get rid of your mess.

My Secret Santa
is Janet,
Just give her a call,
she’ll give you gifts from
her
banquet of service
just dial 410-586-9440
don’t be nervous.
