Rhythms and Cycles: Connecting the Pieces of Your Life
By: Janet L. Hall

Wouldn’t you agree that we all have certain rhythms in our daily life and that we all go through many of the same stages, cycles, and ’seasons’ of life? We are continuously evolving, as is Mother Earth.

I feel the start of Spring is one of the most beautiful stages of evolving. Change is every where you look: Tress budding. Flowers and plants reappearing. Animals giving birth. Birds creating new homes. Insects emerging from their cocoons of hibernation and transformation. Fish spawning. Reptiles shedding their skins. Rocks and soil being turned over. The season is changing. Mother Earth is changing and so can you!

Spring symbolizes birth, new beginnings, and starting over. It is the revitalizing cycle of all on Mother Earth, including you. Spring can mean a new beginning for you and an end to your clutter and chaos if you take some action.

I hear your desire to change, I know you want to get out of the chaotic cycle you are in, and I know you have uncertainty as to where to start.

You know that if you could just find yourself and organize your spaces that everything else will come together. Everything in your life will start to fit – like pieces of a puzzle – the pieces of your life can become connected again, forming a picture of how you want your life to be, if you take some action, moving around the pieces until they all fit snugly together, creating beauty, calm, and joy.

What pieces of your puzzle are missing? What pieces of your puzzle are you ‘forcing’ to fit into your life? What pieces of your puzzle are continually becoming disconnected?

The pieces of your life that you are disconnected from can be physical and psychological. If you feel like you are fighting an uphill battle, could this be caused by chronic fatigue, Fibromyalgia, depression, bipolar, manic depression, OCD, ADD, overwhelm, lack of scheduling or a mountain of other problems?

Reconnecting the pieces can help you restore harmony and balance in your life.

Reconnecting with the natural world, yourself, and others can help you see things in your surroundings differently. Causing you to take action, such as spring cleaning or sorting through your piles of stuff once and for all.

Let’s look at how you can reconnect to nature so you can reconnect to yourself by becoming aware of your personal cycles and rhythms of the days, nights, and seasons?

By becoming aware of your own cycles and rhythms you can begin to work with what you are capable of doing, when you can, so you can begin to plan your days and nights.

Change the rhythms of your life by taking some time for yourself and you will find you will have more energy and focus to accomplish the things you want to do.

Go outside, by yourself. Take at least 15 minutes or more for yourself each and everyday and choose from one of the following:

  • Sit outside: on the porch, under a tree, by the water. Sit, listen and observe.

  • Go for a walk: around the yard, down the street, in the woods. Walk, listen, and observe.

Ask yourself: “What will it take to get me to take action, get help, and get back into my own rhythm of life?”

Listen and start taking action and I guarantee the pieces of your life will eventually start fitting together again.

I’ll be waiting to hear from you and I’m here to help in any way I can.

The other day my husband commented on an item that he hated the placement of it as he was constantly knocking it over, so was Brunno, our dog. Strong word hate. So I’ve now moved the item.

So I asked what other items, if any, bothered him. And then I thought to myself, what bothers me? What is in our home that has “implied negativity” to us?

Let’s look at “implied negativity”. Something that is indirectly or disguised that causes negative thoughts or emotions when looked upon.

Now you know clutter causes negativity, however I’m talking about the items in your home or office that you might not even be aware of that cause negativity. Items that you “no longer see” because “they are ‘always’ there”.

So let’s take off our blinders, really look and explore together around our home or office and look at what we’ve placed in our spaces and what those items mean to us today.

Let’s start with your art and pictures. Do you have any artwork or pictures in your space that cause you any negative emotions or thoughts? Have no value to you any longer? Doesn’t feed your spirit or soul?

For instance: I have a poster I had framed a very long time ago. I mean a long time ago. I ordered the poster, I had the poster specially framed at a frame shop. I no longer have it hanging on the wall; however it sits in my shipping department, behind the door (bad Feng Shui) and says, among other things, How To Be Happy In Spite Of Yourself. I took it off the wall a long time ago because I want to be happy because of myself! So for me it had “implied negativity” and I didn’t want it around me. Yet for some reason (the frame was expensive) I’ve held on to it, stashing it behind the door. Not any more…to the trash it went frame and all! (I couldn’t get it out of the frame and if I haven’t wanted to use the frame before now I know I will never use it).

Do you have a wall hanging you are holding on to you no longer want? Then remove it from your space and feel the weight lifted and the positive come into your life and that space.

Now let’s look at knickknacks, collections, awards, and books. Do any of these items cause you any negative emotions or thoughts? Have no value to you any longer? (Read that, learned that, been there and done that). Doesn’t feed your spirit or soul?

For instance: This past two weeks I really looked at my books (I LOVE books) and have decided what I no longer need and what I wanted to release so others might learn or benefit from them. Also some of the books were sad reminders of what I didn’t finish or perhaps follow through with so I’ve taken them off my bookcases. I’m only keeping the books that I’m still learning from, were autographed, or use for research. Now when I look at my bookcases I have a more positive feeling then before.

Okay let’s do one more together and then you can take a walk through your spaces and start “seeing” with a new set of eyes.

Let’s look at your clothes in your closet. Do you have any clothes that cause you any negative emotions or thoughts? For instance, clothes that might remind you of your weight gain? Have no value to you any longer? (Never wear it). Makes you feel dated or brings back bad memories? Doesn’t feed your spirit or soul?

You might find a lot of items that you didn’t know had “implied negativity” for you; however just by moving, removing and better yet getting rid of you will begin to reverse the negative to a more positive space and a more positive state of mind.

Either sell, donate or pass your items forward if they still have use. I bet you can find someone that will love what no longer feeds you.

Things are a buzz here at Judith’s B&B, where I’ve been staying the last six weeks. Handyman Tim is installing a bathroom in the Magnolia room and electricians are evaluating and installing electric there as well as other places in the old Victorian house. Yes things are a buzz here and change is happening every day, especially for Judith.

For the last six weeks Judith has been embarking on taking back her power and reclaiming her space from her clutter and her brothers over abundance of stuff!

You see Judith’s brother is a flea market/thrift store junkie and yes, some of this started rubbing off on Judith… Read what Judith has to say:

“The shift came for me when I saw my living room decluttered and rearranged. I could actually feel the energy. Everything seemed to flow. It wasn’t until most of my brother’s “useless to me” things were removed from behind the sofa, in corners and under things that I realized how much of his energy had taken over what was mine–my beautiful home and Bed N’ Breakfast.

I loved going to thrift stores and flea markets three or four times a week with my brother. We made a day of it, stopping at a lakeside park and picnicking or exploring new towns. I always found a little something that would look good in one of my guest’s bedrooms. Unfortunately, so did my brother! He has three karaoke machines. Of course no one sings! No one uses the three weed eaters in the garage either! Three seems to be the magic number for my brother.

In the six weeks Janet has been visiting me, I have lost nearly all the desire to go “thrifting”. We filled our days with creativity, doing inspirational walkabouts and photographing nature. We’ve painted fireflies on rocks, tie-dyed shirts and canoed the Suwannee River. (The deserted HAUNTED HOUSE she made me go in was not fun!).

I will miss Janet. Today she leaves for a week long enchanted walkabout with John Springer and then flies home. As for me, I still have the garage left. Janet offered to do it while she was here but I think there needs to be BALANCE! We had a lot of FUN!
